This happened on Thursday 6 June after dinner. The persistent tensions between Samuel Eto’o’s Fécafoot and the Government led the latter to withhold the funds, hoping in this way to create a new bonus crisis, a well-known tactic on the part of Fécafoot.
In reality, the amounts earmarked are normally allocated to Fécafoot by the Ministry of Finance via its accounting officer, who then distributes them to the players at the start of each match. Following these tensions, the Minister of Government took action to force the accounting officer to release the funds, which was finally done after strategic allocations.
The rivalries between Fécafoot and the Government will continue, but for now the players can concentrate on their task, although the match against Angola, which will be played at home on Tuesday, will not be easy.
