The Indomitable Lions got off to a promising start, taking an early lead through Bryan Mbeumo in the 11th minute. However, the Cameroonians were unable to maintain their advantage and eventually conceded an Angolan equaliser through an own goal from Ngadeu in the 54th minute.
Regrets and disappointments?
With this draw, Cameroon missed the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of Group D of the qualifiers. Although Marc Brys’ men remain in first place, their lead is just one point over Libya and Cabo Verde, and two points over fourth-placed Angola.
The Angolans’ regrets are compounded by their solid defensive performance, which neutralised Cameroon’s attacks despite the visitors’ early opener. What’s more, Cameroon’s forwards failed to score in front of goal, despite numerous chances. via this setback, Cameroon remain top of their group and in control of their own destiny in these qualifiers.
