Samuel Eto’o will have to defend himself against accusations of favouritism and match-fixing, in particular for potentially helping Victoria United to reach the Elite One during the 2022-2023 season. An audio recording of his discussions with Valentin Nkwain, the club’s chairman, was widely circulated on social networks, prompting a strong reaction.

The trial is scheduled for Tuesday, and Eto’o, who was already questioned in April, is facing suspension from his duties according to rumours currently circulating. In the event of a suspension, Céline Eko, 1st Vice-President of Fecafoot, is ready to act as interim President.

A decisive week for Cameroonian football

This week promises to be a decisive one for Cameroonian football, with many clubs feeling aggrieved by Eto’o’s alleged actions, including Etoile Filante de Garoua, UMS de Loum, Njalla Quan Academy, Unisport de Bafang, Union d’Abong-Bang, Bamboutos de Mbouda and Kadji Sport Academy.

At the same time, Samuel Eto’o is also embroiled in a case of alleged conflict of interest linked to a contract with the sports betting company 1xbet, a situation that has prompted him to delete all mention of the matter on his social networks. He is considering taking his case to CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport). The stakes are getting higher for the former Barça star.
