Michael Ngadeu, making his comeback, opened the scoring, followed by a brace from captain Vincent Aboubakar and a goal from Nouhou.
A good debut for Marc Brys
Despite the logistical challenges pointed out by Brys at the start of the week, the team has managed to prepare effectively to face Cape Verde. Hired by the Ministry of Sport and Physical Education despite opposition from the federation and its president Samuel Eto’o, the 62-year-old Belgian faced some unusual obstacles on his debut with the Indomitable Lions.
Although the federation took the bus containing all the team’s equipment at the start of the week, this did not prevent them from preparing their players well for their third qualifier against the Blue Sharks.
The Indomitable Lions as we like them
The Indomitable Lions quickly took the lead, scoring two goals in 25 minutes through Ngadeu and Aboubakar. Although Cabo Verde reduced the deficit just before half-time, the Cameroon captain quickly restored Cameroon’s lead by converting a penalty.
Nouhou Tolo sealed victory for the Indomitable Lions in the second half, scoring his first international goal in the process to secure seven points out of a possible nine in their qualifying campaign. With this victory, Cameroon regain top spot in their group, level on points with Libya and two points ahead of Angola, their next opponents.
Carlos Baleba, who was eagerly awaited for this match, was the strongest link in the Indomitable Lions’ victory, so much so that when he left the stadium, he received a thunderous ovation. A good first for the Brighton player.
