The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon take on the Blue Sharks of Cabo Verde this Saturday, June 8, 2024, as part of Day 3 of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The match comes at a time of tension in Cameroon between the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education and the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot).
At the centre of the dispute is the appointment of a coaching staff by Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, which Samuel Eto’o is contesting. While uncertainty persists over who will accompany Marc Brys on the bench, Canal 2 International journalist André Mirabeau Mahop seems to have made up his mind.
“The Fifa match commissioner has just finished checking passports at the Hilton. Brys has delivered his list, confirming his staff appointed by Minsep. He has agreed to add a few members of the staff appointed by Fecafoot, Pagou, Tinkeu and two others. No Ndtoungou Mpile… Team Press remains Germain Noël Essengue and coordinator Benjamin Banlock… but everything could change in the next few hours. A word of clarification. If nothing is done, Marc Brys may even find himself on his own this Saturday,” the journalist posted on his Facebook account on Friday.
“They have forgotten that it is the coach who gives the match report (players and staff) to the match officials. I hope that Benoit Amgbwa has respected the advice of MINSEP yesterday, because he will be held responsible,” said Patrick Duprix Anicet Mani, a member of the Cameroon People Democratic Movement (CPDM).
